But Wait! There's More!

Noise vs. Signal

Muxtape is a nifty little website which allows you to upload up to 12 songs at a time and create an electronic mixtape. The art of the mixtape seems to have been lost in the ipod generation, but muxtape has put a tremendous effort into bringing back a dying artform while modernizing it.

The website is very easy to use. Setting up an account and uploading songs is a very straightforward process. Muxtape creates a personalized mixtape page for you (you may view mine here). Pressing enter will play and pause songs while the arrow keys will scroll through the playlist.

The ease of use and utter simplicity of its design create a very user friendly atmosphere ala sites like Tumblr. So far the only problem I’m faced with is finding other users’ mixtapes. There is no directory or “random mix” link. Though only a small shortcoming, I believe that Muxtape would benefit immensely by integrating a small community aspect to their site. After all, a major perk of a mixtape is how easily you can share it and build community.

Muxtape is a very young startup with a lot of potential. If it retains its simplicity in design and idea we may be hearing a lot more about Muxtape in the future.

Update (3/27/2008):  Since posting this review, Muxtape has added functionality which allows the user to select mixtapes at random.
